CHSCF and Base2Summit COVID-19 Update (May 2020)

The COVID-19 pandemic has things changing daily and at times it seems we are standing still. With that in mind, here is the latest update from The Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer Foundation.

With a heavy heart the Cassie Hines Shoes Cancer Foundation’s Board of Directors, has made the unanimous decision to cancel the 2020 Base2Summit program. Although we truly hope for life to normalize by August, we could not risk the health of our participants and staff. The B2S staff will continue to create an invigorating program encompassing our tenets of wellness, adventure, and connection, all while enjoying the tranquility offered by the charm of Northern Michigan. We hope to create two weeks next summer, with one week focusing on participants from Michigan.

In light of the changes this year, we will be increasing funding for post-high school scholarships. It is our intention to grant a minimum of ten (10) $1,000 awards. The requirements and application can be found here. Please remember, this is for any accredited post-high school program, and not just for high school seniors!
Applications must be postmarked by July 15, 2020 to be considered for a grant. (Michigan residents only)

As previously mentioned, information bags are normally at all Michigan hospitals and treatment centers. Respecting that hospitals are limiting visitors we have not replenished their inventories. If you or someone you know would benefit from an information bag, we would be happy to mail one. Find the request form here.

We remain passionate about young adults that have already spent time in isolation because of their diagnosis. Unfortunately, the unintended consequence of further isolation takes a toll. We intend to point those young adults to programs that can help.

We thank you for your continued support of our mission.

God Bless,
Chris and Karen Hines, co-founders
